I’m MBTI qualified…so now what???? – Devra Yanke

Last year when I made the decision to attend the qualifying workshop for MBTI, I was excited and looking forward to new learning.  The first morning, the SAAPT President (we had worked together on a consulting basis) was surprised that I was not already qualified as I seemed to know a good deal about type.  We’d had great conversations with our colleagues about type and how it helped us to better understand ourselves and others. Reflecting on that conversation makes me smile…I knew that I had made the right decision to qualify and begin using type in my consulting business.

I was successful and am now a qualified user.  When I received my certificate in the mail my first thought was, “OK now what?” Where do I go from here…how could I gain experience in using MBTI…what approach would I take with clients to encourage them to use it….more questions than answers!

My first thought was to connect with other type users. I joined SAAPT and found a number of people who were more than willing to offer their guidance and advice.  The next thing I knew, here I am, President Elect! What a great group of people to work with…I’m looking forward to meeting more members and prospective members at upcoming meetings and workshops!

My workshop leader, Laurie Lippin, encouraged us to begin using MBTI as soon as possible. I immediately enlisted my spouse, family members and, yes, even my neighbours.  It provided a safe environment for me to conduct feedback sessions and get some helpful feedback!  Another decision to set up my own website to complete online assessments proved to work very well. It makes it very simple to conduct the assessment process.

It remains a challenge to find new situations to use type and there is no replacement for experience and marketing skills!  I’d love to hear from others about their experiences, stories and struggles…
